HLK Recognized for Work with St. Louis Browns Historical Society
April 17, 2015
All day, most days. That’s how often HLK’s work for the St. Louis Browns Historical Society has been featured by industry and design publications since its launch in March:
March 12: CSS Design Awards Website of the Day
March 29: Typewolf Site of the Day
April 12: The Favourite Website Awards Site of the Day
April 17: Communication Arts’ Webpick of the Week
HLK partnered with the St. Louis Browns Historical Society – an organization dedicated to preserving the legacy of a baseball team known more for their colorful history than their franchise record – to create a website that leads users through the timeline of the now-defunct team’s tenure in St. Louis.
The phrase “St. Louis: first in shoes, first and booze, and last in the American League” perfectly sums up the team’s 44 losing seasons and became the website’s opening salvo. The site www.thestlbrowns.com features biographies of the players – including 3 foot 7-inch pinch hitter Eddie Gaedel – and stats in an effort to increase interest in the team and membership in the Society.
Within the history section, artifacts from the St. Louis Browns Historical Society archives are combined with era-specific fonts, graphic treatment and vernacular to create an authentic user experience.
And as CommArts reported in its Webpick of the Week feature, “the site had more visitors in the first three days following the launch than it did in the entire previous year. As a result, new membership in the organization tripled in year-over-year tracking.”
HLK is a full-service digital agency driven to create authentic brand experiences. Active clients include Nestle Purina, Monsanto, On The Run, Germ-X, St. Louis Cardinals, MapQuest, Emerson, St. Patrick Center and Webster University.
