Flipping the Financial Firm Model

Launching a new financial services firm into a crowded, legacy-driven category requires immediate differentiation. Most firms are named after founders or institutions, reinforcing the idea that the company – not the advisor – is the brand. The founders of &Partners believe the opposite: Clients choose people they trust, not logos on buildings. The challenge was to create a name and brand system that flipped the category and made the advisor the hero.

From Institution-Led to Advisor-Owned

The primary audience is experienced financial advisors frustrated by bureaucracy, rigid systems, and limited flexibility at large institutions. They want more control over how they serve clients and build their businesses. These advisors value independence, but still need strong operational support behind them. The brand needed to signal partnership, not ownership, and appeal equally to advisors and the clients who trust them.

A Name That Leaves Room

HLK created &Partners – a name designed to be the back half of the brand, not the front. Anchored by an ampersand, the name is intentionally open-ended, positioning the firm as the support system behind the advisor rather than the hero. The minimalist, elevated identity visually steps back to let advisors lead while standing apart from both traditional financial brands and tech-first disruptors. Together, the naming and identity reframe the firm as an invitation to collaborate, not conform.

Standing Out by Stepping Aside

The &Partners brand launched on time and immediately stood out in a conservative category. The name sparked conversation, clearly communicating the firm’s advisor-first philosophy from day one. The brand successfully supported advisor recruitment and asset-under-management goals, validating the strategy behind the name and identity. Since its launch, &Partners has exceeded forecasts and continues to grow year over year.

Why We Love It

This work proves that naming is strategy, not decoration. By designing a brand that intentionally steps aside, we helped create a financial firm built around people, not power.
